OWEN WALLAGE
Owen started playing trumpet when he was 7 years old and his first brass banding experience was with Pittington primary school. He continued playing trumpet with numerous school and county bands until he was 15, but always wanted to play 'the big one at the back' (the tuba!!).
Soon after his brother joined chester-le-street youth band, Owen was invited along to play Bb Bass. After a few rehearsals it became clear that this was the instrument for him! Thereafter he played with the NASUWT Riverside band and also became principle Bb Bass of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Owen is currently studying music at Birmingham Conservatoire under the direction of Graham Sibley, principle tuba of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
He is extremely proud and delighted to have recently joined Grimethorpe Colliery Band on Bb Bass and is looking forward to all the new and exciting opportunities to come!
