Nick started to play the cornet at the age of 7, joining the Young People's band at the Salvation Army in Halifax. Being first and foremost a Salvationist Nick didn't enter the contesting scene until very late on, by first winning the Yorkshire area with Gawthorpe Brass, and then joining the Sellers International Band in 2006.

After the untimely demise of Sellers, Nick enjoyed a brief spell at Yorkshire Imps and Skelmanthorpe before fulfilling a life long ambition to join Grimethorpe in February 2009.

Nick has recently enjoyed three years at Huddersfield University studying cornet with Phillip McCann and has just graduated with a BMus (Hons). He attends the Salvation Army in Morley where he is principal cornet and Young People's Bandmaster.
