Re: Southend 11/7/2010
I have just got in from attending your concert in Southend. I made the mistake of reading your guestbook before sending this e-mail, because as I was driving home all the words that I was going to say were so clear in my mind. But then in the guestbook there they were, all my words. Everything that could be said has already been said. From all parts of this country and around the world. In Southend we stamped our feet and clapped and cheered.
Brass bands of your calibre don't come this way very often. Please come back soon. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon.

Re: Innerleithen 5/6/2010
From the moment the concert began my socks were well and truly blown off! The programme was so well thought out and we loved the balance of modern, traditional and classic tunes. David Stowell's introductions and humour made for a warm, friendly evening and the soloists were absolutely outstanding. It was an absolute honour to have the opportunity to hear the best brass band in the world. Please come back to Scotland soon!

Re: Norwich St Andrews 9/4/2010
I just wanted to say thank you for such an amazing concert last weekend. It was absolutely stunning with fantastic choices of music, excellent conducting and inspirational playing. I look forward to hearing you all again tomorrow at Bury St.Edmunds for another great evening.
PS: Macarthur park was truly stunning live!

Re: Bridlington 11/4/2010
What a superb performance. I'm from Barnsley, although I've been doing missionary work in East Yorkshire for the past 30 years, and most of my family were in the mining industry, so this was a wonderful taste of home to me.
Thankyou for a wonderful Sunday afternoon. I could not have spent it in any better way.

Re: Bridlington 11/4/2010
I have just got home form your concert in Bridlington and I wanted to say a big thank you to all the band and Mr Gourlay for giving us 2 hours of sheer pleasure. The music was superb of course and the comedy turns and general "feel good" atmosphere was a wonderful tonic.
Many, many thanks to you all.

Re: Warrington Parr Hall 27/3/2010

Re: Barnsley Concert 22/3/2010
Partner and I had first experience of band last night at Mayor of Barnsley's concert in aid of NSPCC. We were totally blown away by the band, all the soloists and of course the conductor/musical director. Fantastic performance and we'll certainly look out for future events locally.
Shame that the average age of the audience must have been 70+ though! My partner reckoned that she must have been the youngest by about 20 years. Whatever, it was a totally brilliant evening and we felt very privileged that we were able to experience live music of the very highest calibre for a tenner a head! We'll be back...

Re: Barnsley Concert 22/3/2010
As I was born in Barnsley in 1946 (so I'm told!) and lived initially in Wombwell, now living in Perth, Western Australia, thought you might like to know that I present a radio show here in the city, during which I play music from the band occasionally.
Do get thanks for it too! Was last in Wombwell last July visiting a cousin. Great music, even if it is 9,500 miles away from its source!

Re: Reading Concert Hall 20/2/2010
Many thanks to all the band for yet another awesome show. Truly inspiring ,I just don't know how you produce that stunning sound. Best I've heard you play with some exceptional solos as usual. Can't wait to see you again down south, THANKS TO ALL !!!!!!!!!!

Re: Wakefield Concert 18/2/2010
Great concert! The 1st half was especially fantastic, although I had a lump in my throat throughout! Some great solos and the harmonys were awesome. A very nice arrangement of "Dance to your Daddy" which 'hit the spot' very nicely. Massive sound and a wonderful performance.
I will definitely be coming to see you again, sooner rather then later.
Many Thanks for a very enjoyable evening.

Re: Darlington Civic Centre 6/2/2010
Thank you so much for an incredible performance on Saturday. We thoroughly enjoyed it. As amateur bandsmen we can say we were truly impressed with your dynamics, and thought that 1812 was fantastic!

Re: Buxton Concert
I was at your show at the Opera House on Sat 14th Nov and I was transported! I have always loved brass band music but yours was truly magical. You all have cheered what has been a very bad year thank you so much. I am already planning my next outing to hear your wonderful music.

May I take this opportunity to personally thank you all at Grimethorpe for making us feel so very welcome on Monday night. I and the other players were in awe at the sound you produced, and to be able to play with probably the finest players in the country was just mind blowing. We are all looking forward to Saturday night at Sheffield. Once again many many thanks to you all and to Mr Gourlay for his kind comments.

Subject: Cancer Research UK Concert
Gentlemen. I was a member of the 1500 choir on Saturday night. What a fantastic and at times moving evening it was. Thank you (and B&R) for your wonderful playing particularly Procession to the Minster.
The standing ovation was thoroughly deserved and the audience started clapping about 4 bars from the end. Thanks again.
Let's hope we raise over £100,000 this time.
Brian Hepworth
What a fantastic concert in Shrewsbury this week. Many thanks. And thanks for a bit of nostalgia - I was born in Pontefract, only a stone's throw from Grimethorpe!

To the Bandmaster/Conductor & players:
It is Fathers day morning here in Australia(Tasmania) & I need to say thankyou very very much.
My daughter, who is now in England, sent me 2 of your amazing Cd's which i have just enjoyed so so much. As an ex 2nd trombone player I am in heaven listening to the amazing depth and quality of sound you guys gave me. Having played in many 'A' grade Australian bands I have experienced some excellent music, but never ever to the amazing standard and quality of your superb band. I have had the tingles and been conducting with your every beat and enjoying for the last 2 hours.
Again than you so much for a great fathers day
Martin Hagger
I had to send my congratulations to you. My son and I attended the concert in Truro - our first ever.
As my son said it was "awesome." Macarthur Park took my breath away.
Fred Gortyon
I was there in Truro and witnessed some exciting playing. Macarthur Park showed off a phenomenal horn section and great sop for the last note. The solo horn played the Strauss horn concerto just like a french horn! I have heard Dennis Brain play this solo on a vinyl and Arfon came close to the rendition, congratulations. Thank you so much, I'll be there next time you're down South. Fred
Shirley & David Barnes
I feel I must write to congratulate you on a special concert last Sunday at the Queens Hall Barnstaple. A fantastic repertoire which for me personally the rendition of The Day Thou Gavest etc to St Clements brought tears to my eyes. What a spectacular.
My wife suggested that Sunday was perhaps the finest music she has heard at the Queens - and we have listened to quite a lot. Friends of ours accompanied us and her son plays cornet in a band in Chaing Mai and regularly plays for the King. She was suitably impressed with the afternoon.
Just as a thought and it ages me somewhat do you or have you ever played as a lighter piece the Danny Kaye 'Tubby The Tuba' piece. Perhaps worth consideration for the future as it will still appeal to all ages and shows the versatility of both the tuba in particular and other instruments. I have your CD but was sad that none of the pieces played on Sunday are featured especially the superb Euphonium duet of Rule Brittania. I have never heard your last piece before - The Peterloo Massacre - and it reminded me so much of the Shostakovich Leningrad symphony, the Seventh.
Again thanks for a wonderful afternoon and we look forward to your future visits to Barnstaple. Regards, Shirley & David Barnes ( I am a Mancunian and was brought up on Bessies in the Barn' which must tell a story of my interest).
Karen Jenkin
I enjoyed the concert and lovely playing and would like to say thank you for coming down. Karen from the Hayle Town Band.
Rebecca Noall
Thank you for coming to Cornwall and for the excellent concert at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro tonight; I enjoyed it immensely. The soloists and duetists were superb, as were the whole band!! My personal favourite was the horn solo; but all the performances tonight were outstanding. A great evening! :)
Harold French
Fantastic concert in Ludlow. What a band!!! Entertaining programme and some super soloists.Bravo! Enjoyed the 'Guest' conductor 'Danny',and the playing and conducting of the excellent Mr. Gourlay. Nice to see Mr. Mccann stepping in to conduct the tuba duet. See you again at Truro!
Mr Henry Creesdale
Your music is fantastic. If your sound was a car it would definitely be the lambourghini or ferrari of brass bands. Can I ask, I myself am a flugel enthusiast and was fascinated to see that your flugel player had letters of the alphabet posted all over his instrument at a recent concert in the North East, what do they stand for? Is it some kind of Da Vinci code that needs solving or something else? I heard that he was a geordie like myself as well so please let him know if he is ever in town to pop round for a Newky Brown and a very warm welcome.
Arlene Stence
Love your music! Do you have the actual written music available? We have a small brass group looking for some good music and love yours, but haven't found music like it here. Can you help?

I am an Australian visiting the UK the week commencing 10th January 2010. Does the band practice during that week and are the public (me) allowed to attend.

Have enjoyed the music of the Colliery Band for years. Finally have become adept enough with the web.
Gordon Nilsen
Our brass band here in Minnesota USA has been big fans of Griethorpe ever since we first "discovered" you in the "Brassed Off" film. We have enjoyed listening to your music on CDs and have performed some of "your" pieces. There are two pieces, however, that I have questions, and I am wondering if you may be able to help me.
The piece you perform in Brassed Off which is called "Danny Boy" seems to be a transcription for B B of the arrangement by Percy Grainger of that piece that usually goes by "An Irish Tune From County Derry". I have tried to order it over the years and have never received THAT arrangement. I have just discovered a TRANSCRIPION called DANNY BOY by James WRIGHT. Is THAT the piece we hear you perform in the movie and on the CD ? If so, who is the publisher? is it still in print/available ? and, if so, where might we order it ?
Second, you have recorded an arrangement of MacArthur Park. We have also tried to get it. We have ordered and played the Peaberdy arr. of the Webb piece BUT it is definitely NOT the great one you guys play. Is THAT arrangement availab
le for purchase ? or still in manuscript unpublished form ? If we CAN buy it, who is the arranger and the publisher and where might we order it? If it is "your piece" and still in unpublished manuscript, is there any possibility that you might share it with us? (if so how might we compensate you for the score and and set of parts?) (you could send them to me Gordon Nilsen. The Lake Wobegon Brass Band. 1156 Fifth Avenue South. Anoka, Minnesota . USA.)
Michiel
Finally I've heard you play live. To bad for the results, but a big hand for the euphoniumplayer. It was outstanding! Hope to hear you guys live again somewhere. Ps: I met a cornet player named Nick at the bar on saturday, we said i would look him up at facebook, but I can't find him. He can react on callichio.hyves.nl. 'Cause it was a nice night drnking beers with the guy :D
John Graham
Thank you for two wonderful performance's this weekend. How the band came so low on friday was beyond me and most of the people i spoke to. Congraulations to your euphonium player on his well desered solo award and best wishes for the rest of the year.
Dr Michael Wiseman
I am an immense admirer of your creativity and quality.
Phil Steadham

Thank you for a brilliant concert last night at the Anvil Basingstoke.

I worked on the film "Brassed Off" as a camera grip, and worked closely with the band, after filming had finished I had the great pleasure of recording a version of the "Air That I Breathe" with some band members. I desperately need to contact
the musicians that were on the recording, could you please ask any band members to contact me.
Rachel
heya ,, we really enjoyed performing with you ,, The story of maria von trapp ,, we all would like the chance to do something like that again :) thanks
Peter Rubery
Hi, Just a line to say that I have always admired your band, I am a bit biased as my Uncle Terence Dillon played the Trombone and his son Terry Dillon the Cornet somewhere around the 50's I think Terry played for the Welsh Guards during his National service and also had the privelage of playing with Sir Harry Mortimer. I still see Terry on a regular basis as my wife and I spend some holidays with him.
Phil Steadham
When are you coming back to the U.S. with that sweet, gorgeous brass sound? You're long overdue.
C. A. Prettiman, Ph.D
Your music and arrangements are astonishing. Just bought one of your CDs. Please always know that you are inspiring and bringing pleasure to people around the world. I live in the Northeastern United States--and I am a great fan! Thanks for all you have done to spotlight brass bands and the music they can play. Always consider yourselves a force to be reckoned with, and never give up or give in. Thanks for it all,
