On Saturday evening the band and guest MD Frank Renton took to the stage at Canterbury Cathederal to perform a special one off concert.

 

 

Opening with Grimethorpe Aria, the audience were treated to a piece of music that really stretches the perceptions of what brass band music is all about.  Some fantastic sounds and effects come to life from the infamous score produced by Harrison Birtwistle.

Grimethorpe featured on BBC Radio 2

Grimethorpe were featured on Thursday morning as part of BBC Radio 2's 2Day.  

 

The band played 'In the Mood' at Salford's Media City which went out live accross the nation yesterday morning.

James Fountain departs Grimethorpe

Grimethorpe Band Latest News

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced that co-principal cornet player James Fountain has left the Yorkshire band with immediate effect.

With James set to start studies at the Guild Hall in London in September, with the eventual aim of making a career as a professional trumpet player, Band Spokesperson Nigel Dixon said that implementing long term planning for the band was essential.

Folkestone & Bromley

Grimethorpe Band Latest News

Another busy weekend over for the Grimethorpe lads.

 

The band took to the stage in Folkestone and Bromley to two packed houses.  As usual there was some brilliant solo playing from Roger Webster, James Fountain, Andrew Holmes, Danny Powell, Michael Dodd and Philippe Schwartz.  Highlights of the concert included Sandy Smith's 1712 Overture, Sweet Georgia Brown and the standard Brassed Off! set.

MacArthur Park, one of Grimethorpe's signature tunes has become extremely popular on the web.  Uploaded just over a year ago, people from all corners of the globe have taken a few minutes to watch the video which was recorded at The Sage, Gateshead in November 2008.

Another busy week of music making for the band over!

 

On Monday night we played at the Emmanuel Church in Barnsley for the annual Mayor's Concert, Saturday we travelled to Wellingborough and yesterday (Sunday) we played at Birmingham's Town Hall.

 

Three fantastic audiences filled the halls and they were treated to some brilliant solo playing from James Fountain, Danny Powell, Andy Holmes and a special duet given by Michael Dodd and Philippe Schwartz.

Grimey announces the launch of 'The Grimethorpe Besson Youth Band'

Grimethorpe Colliery Band is set to launch an exciting new venture, which they hope will provide young players with the inspiration to start a lifelong association with brass bands.

The first Grimethorpe Besson Youth Band open day, starting at 9.45am, will take place on Saturday 26th May at the local Shafton School, and will see many of Grimethorpe’s star players on hand to offer advice, tips and practical teaching skills.
